There is no doubt that Zinedine Zidane belongs to the best soccer players in the history of that sport. He has technical skills that maybe 2 or players can mess with. He was not only a great player, but also a great person outside the soccer field. Since 2013, Zidane has been working as assistant coach at his former club Real Madrid.
Early Years
Zinedine Zidane was born on June 23, 1973, in Marseille, France. He is the son of Algerian immigrants. He grew up with his three brothers and one sister Lila in La Castellane. His first club was called U.S. Saint–Henri. Later, he played for Sports Olympiques Septèmes-les-Vallon.
Zidane was scouted by AS Cannes in 14 years old . He lived in a room of the regional boarding school for vocational students, where he met his present wife, Veronique. At 16 years old, Zidane was substituted for the first time in a game for the senior team of AS Cannes.
After Cannes had to move to the second league, Zidane moved to Bordeaux in 1992, where he got the nickname "Zizou" by his coach Rolland Courbis. His biggest success with the club was reaching the final of the UEFA Cup in 1996.
Juventus
During the following winter break, Zidane moved to the top Italian club Juventus, where became a world-class soccer player. With Turin, Zidane won the Italian Championship twice, and was twice a Champions League finalist, however, he lost both times.
Real Madrid
In 2001, Zidane moved for the record fee of €73.5 million to Real Madrid. Until the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo in the year 2009, Zidane was the most expensive soccer player in the world.
At Real Madrid, the Frenchman won the Champions League for the first time, scoring a spectacular goal in the final in Glasgow in 2002 against Bayer Leverkusen. Real Madrid won the game 2-1.
In 2003, Zinedine Zidane won the Spanish league with Real Madrid. In the same year he was elected for the third time World Player of the Year.
Although his original contract ran until 2007, Zidane played his last game for Real Madrid on May 7, 2006 against FC Sevilla. Then, he finished his career in club soccer. The last game of his career was probably the most dramatic in this career, though.
It was the final of the FIFA World Cup 2006, when Zidane's Frenchmen took on Italy. First, Zidane scored a penalty goal. Later in the game, Italian player Marco Materazzi said something insulting to Zinedine Zidane about his sister and wife, and Zidane headbutted his chest. He got a red card and France missed the title, losing in penalty kicks.
